So every year we say farewell to a number of our young people as they venture off to University and further training. Check out our interviews with Jason and Lori
So Jason where are you training?
The Urdang academy
So, now you’re at dance college how has your first week been?
A huge shock to the system, I both want to simultaneously cry and laughing with happiness and relief. I am still figuring my way around this whole “adult,” thing.
Tell us more about what you have been doing in class?
This week as Been whole whirlwind of admin stuff as well as long talks to inform what we are actually doing as well as assessing us in all forms of dance and musical theatre aspects. Everything happens so quickly it’s a bit of a blur for me
What advice would you give to anyone applying for dance or drama school? Your 3 top tips.
It is scary and a huge leap of faith, and right now for me I feel like I am falling. But just remember, you’re still learning. It’s ok to fall (and scream the entire way down) because your wings will finally kick in and you will survive! Not only survive, you’ll freaking smash it. Faith, patience and a little courage (and alcohol)
And how much do you miss NGYT ? ?
Ngwhat? …just kidding. I miss ngyt more than I can possibly say. It has and always will be one of the best dance experiences I know.
And Lori where are you training?
Creative Academy
So now that you’re at dance college how has your first week been?
My first week has been everything I expected if not more, we’ve done more dancing than I’ve ever done in my life and I’m beginning to understand my strengths and weaknesses more already, my body is killing me but I’m powering through whilst crying on the inside?
Tell us more about what you have been doing in class?
At creative academy we do around 30hours of practical training a week, we’ve done tumbling, contemporary techniques/release work, jazz, commercial and ISTD modern and BALLET (which I DESPISE) but I’ll hopefully improve ???
What advice would you give to anyone applying to dance or drama school? Your 3 top tips.
Make sure it’s 100% what you want to do and that you’re passionate about it because it takes a lot of hard work and dedication and the motivation for that will quickly run out if you don’t truly love what you’re doing.
If you know you’re going to dance school HIT THE GYM over summer (my biggest regret?)
Don’t be nervous because once you start you realise everyone is feeling the same way and everyone have different strengths and weaknesses.
How much do you miss NGYT?
I miss my NGYT family SO much ? they’ve taught me everything I know about dancing and have helped me grow as a person more than I can explain ??
